Jess Wimberly Grigg, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, son, friend, and mentor, left this world on August 10th, 2026, at the age of 60. He was in his shop at his home in Anacoco, Louisiana, working on the projects that he loved when he instantly and peacefully entered the presence of the Lord after experiencing a sudden cardiac event. Born on September 20th, 1965, in Winnfield, Louisiana, Jess left a legacy that touched the lives of many near and far.
Jess was a proud member of the 1982 Winnfield Senior High state championship football team. Following his graduation from high school in 1983, he attended Louisiana Tech University, where he earned a full track scholarship and met his loving wife on campus in the spring of 1984. Jess graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aviation before beginning a fulfilling 37-year career in aviation. He retired from UPS as an Airbus 300 Captain in September of 2025 after thoroughly enjoying his work as both a pilot and chairman of the IPA ARFF committee.
In his free time, Jess enjoyed fishing, good food, and
cherishing the valuable time he spent with his family and many friends. Jess appreciated the simpler things in life and loved nothing more than serving the people he cared about in every way he could. He made sure that no one was a stranger to him. His love for the service of others was matched only by his love for the Lord and his commitment to instilling Christian values into his personal affairs.

Jess spent 37 wonderful years married to the love of his life, Sherry Grigg. Their marriage was a testament to Christian unity and commitment to all who knew them. Their union blessed them with their cherished daughter, Rachel Grigg, whom they took great pride in raising in the knowledge of the Lord.
Left to honor his memory are his wife, Sherry Dawn Grigg; daughter, Rachel Nicole Grigg; sister, Ginger Lynn Peterson; nephew, Daniel Edward Peterson, wife, Chelsea, and children, Sadie Larke and Stella Ruth; nephew, Michael Otis Peterson, wife, Taylor, and children, Marie Sawyer, Jack Taylor, and Nate James. Jess is preceded in death by parents Edward Jackson Grigg and Jessie Nell Wimberly Grigg; brother, Jack Norwood “Woody” Grigg; brother-in-law, Otis Edmond Peterson.
We ask all who wish to celebrate the Lord’s work in Jess’ life to attend a celebration of life on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Winnfield, Louisiana. A visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M., followed by a service at 11:00 A.M., officiated by Reverend Danny Keyes. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed at https://www.fbcwinn.com/event/. The family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations in memoriam of Jess be sent to Gideons International, the SEAL Legacy Foundation, Louisiana Tech Aviation, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
